More than 1,500 people turned up to see the 60 vintage vehicles which were on display at the Mere in Ellesmere on Sunday. The event also helped to raise £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kate Thomas, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support Shropshire, said: “It was fabulously supported by Susie Jump and her North West Giant dogs as well as all the fabulous cars and their owners.

“The Ellesmere Carnival Committee provided teas, sandwiches and cakes and the Red Lion Coaching Inn ran a bar.

“There were a lot of local craft stall holders such as Cathy Eccles of Kizmet Crafts, Janice Williams of Roseleigh Cakes, Emma Glynn of HandcraftedByGlynn, Victoria Cartwright from Cambrian Antique, Ruth Bridgewood of Nan’s Treasure Box and Lindy Blackcliff of Buttons crafts.”

“The atmosphere was very village fete and organisers have had some lovely comments about the event on social media.

She added: “The organisers were Tim Hunter and Simon Darlington of Oswestry Classic Car Garage and the stewards were made up of volunteers – the youngest Dan Hunter, is only 12 and did a full day helping out, as well as his big brother, Ben Hunter, his mum, Jo Hunter and local enthusiasts, Patrick Nicholls and Frank Smith.”

The raffle prizes were gathered and the raffle run by Deb Darlington and Pam Emery. Organisers intend to hold the event again next year.
