Shrewsbury Flower Show is the official home to the National Begonia Society National Championships and the best in show winner came all the way from Scotland to enter.

John and Mary Hamilton travelled hundreds of miles with their beautiful potted Begonia's which proved popular with the judges and visitors.

Society secretary, Robert Bryce said: "Historically, we always used to hold the championships in Birmingham but five years ago I came to meet with the people at Shrewsbury Flower Show and asked if they would like us to come here.

"So for the last five years this is where we've held the nationals and we hope to keep coming for a long time to come."

There are thousands of types of begonias all over the world and the society encourages members to cultivate new species and varieties.

Mr Bryce added: "Begonias give a big floral impact and people love to come and see them because they are so bright and impressive. I think people can't believe that they can be grown so big."

The winner of the best cut blooms went to an exhibitor all the way from Newcastle.
