The event, which is being held for the 12th year, takes place from October 6 to 8, at The Old Market Hall Cinema.

Deputy mayor of Shrewsbury and the leader of Shropshire Council, Peter Nutting, will open the event.

Geoff Hardy, one of the organisers of the LGBTQ festival, said a number of actors would be attending to talk about their work.

He said: "As always, we have put together an exciting and varied programme of films and events, and are bringing film artists from around the world to celebrate and discuss their art.

"Our Friday night opener is "God's Own Country", a brand-new film that is described by “Metro” as “Yorkshire's answer to Brokeback Mountain”, and is receiving fantastic reviews.

""While You Weren't Looking" filmed in a beautiful location in South Africa tells the story of the adopted daughter of a mixed race lesbian couple and how she meets her challenges.

"Saar Maoz, who stars in "Who's Gonna Love Me Now?" is travelling from Tel Aviv to talk to us after the screening of his truly captivating life story and answer questions.

""The Summer of Sangaile" treats us to the story of 17-year-old Sangaile and how she is helped by Auste, a girl of her own age, whom she meets by chance to confront her fears and live her life ambitions."

"We welcome also co-lead actor Fawzia Mirza in “Signature Move” to our screening of this moving account of an immigration lawyer juggling the responsibility of being a good Muslim daughter to her recently widowed mother with her new exciting lesbian relationship."

The festival will also include a showing of “Théo & Hugo”, with Director Jacques Martineau travelling from Paris for a question and answer session.

As in previous years the event will also include a varied programme of UK and international short films.

"This year we’ve squeezed in a lecture on the representation of bisexuality on the screen, and there will be plenty more besides," said Will Allaway, of the organising team.

Tickets go on sale from August 21, from the Box Office at the Old Market Hall Cinema, or are available from www.oldmarkethall.co.uk or 01743 281281.
