V Festival 2017: Ellie Goulding - review

The singer from Kington on the Shropshire border went from being the the voice of M&S's Christmas advert, to S&M singing the theme tune to Fifty Shades of Grey.

Now she seems to be enjoying life as a pop/rocker.

After a storming set from Stormzy Ellie's softer sound and her mellow folk roots could have been a bit of a damp squib.

But it was soon clear that this would be an Ellie Goulding with edge.

She arrived on stage dressed entirely in black with a skirt split to the waist and patent boots.

And she asked the crowd "are you feeling sexy" before launching into one of her sexy numbers.

But as soon as she started singing it was unmistakably Ellie.

The distinctive voice sang Outside with real passion and it didn't matter that Calvin Harris wasn't on stage.

Goulding then picked up an electric guitar and turned into a rock chic for a great instrumental start to Hold On.

She seemed at real ease in rock band style and really enjoying herself.

Her voice rang out over the crowd and worked well with the harder sound.

Old Ellie returned with Anything Can Happen the set awash with bubbles and even an acoustic guitar on stage.

The best cheer from the crowd was for Burn, again a raunchy version while it was a very sexy Ellie that sang Love me Like you Do.

It's always good to see a local girl do good and also to see someone evolve over the years.
