Drayton Arts Fest: Meet author Adam Hamdy at event
Fresh details have been revealed about a popular arts festival, which will once again take centre stage in a market town this autumn.
The fourth Drayton Arts Fest is set to attract hundreds of people to Market Drayton to events ranging from photography exhibitions to dance shows.
The festival will run from October 27 to 29 and follows successful events in the previous three years.
Organiser Suzanne Edwards said she hope this year’s programme will offer something for everybody.
"A new feature this year is a range of activities for people of all ages to try out new creative skills in specialist workshops and take part in activities such as singing along with Little Voices, A Choired Taste and the Irish Half Cut Folk Band," she said.
"Folk are also invited to join in with martial arts, country, sequence, maypole and line-dancing sessions.
"On the Saturday morning at the Festival Drayton Centre we are delighted to offer avid readers of thriller books the opportunity to meet local author Adam Hamdy, whose new exciting trilogy is currently being be made into a national TV series.
"We are also hosting a special all day craft and gift fair at the Beacon Centre. There will also be various exhibitions displaying works of local artists, school children and photographers throughout the festival.
"Our entertainment programme this year features local bands, choirs, storytellers and musicians with performances at the Festival Drayton Centre by our local Amdrams with their musical tribute to the American jukebox ‘Oh What a Night’."
On the Saturday afternoon in St Mary’s Church, local organist Harry Hitchen and the U3A recorder group will be giving a short recital followed by afternoon tea.
Mrs Edwards also said there will be a lot of events for children to enjoy at this year's festival.
"On the Friday there is a gingerbread man hunt for three to six year olds at the library, a pavement art competition for seven to 15 year olds, and national storyteller Jake Evans will be again performing his wonderful stories during the morning at the Phoenix Centre," she said.
"In the afternoon at the Festival Drayton Centre there is a fun 'music makers' workshop for seven to 15 year olds at 2pm in the festival room, followed at 3pm by a family performance in the auditorium of well-known children’s story ‘The Tin Forest’ by ‘Puppetcraft’ Theatre Company from Devon."
On the Saturday morning children can meet the well-known young author from Sheffield, Madeleina Kay wit her dog Alba, who is the star of her stories.
