VIP opening for new Telford youth help centre
A new youth centre has opened in Telford.
After two-years of running the Recharge Telford Young People’s Scheme in the community, the team behind it are celebrating after opening a new home in Brookside.
Recharge have been working very hard over the last two months to get the centre up and running, with a huge amount of support from local community projects, volunteers, friends and supporters and the local community.
And it has now held its official opening.
Rebecca Blount, founder and director, said the new centre will give them a base to run opportunities and where young people can get support.
She added: "It was an awesome day, really good attendance, lots of people from different organisations and all over Telford.
"Everyone was blown away, two of my volunteers did a real heartfelt share about time with Recharge and what means to them which was really special.
"Lots of good things have come from it, people have come forward to volunteer in lots of areas."
She added: "Lots of things have been happening because we've already been running for two years but the centre will make a massive difference.
"It is stability but also we want it to be a place that young people have ownership of, it will be there space."
Recharge provides an recovery programme that supports young people with guidance and engagement, helping them to meet their goals.
Its timetable of opt in-opt out services will be starting next week.
It runs activities for and with young people from Telford to raise awareness, offer support and allows them to try new experiences and opportunities.
On offer, are weekly SMART recovery groups, creative Kraftz, music for recovery, drama, and emotional health support groups.
In the evenings Recharge runs weekly football and boxing sessions.
Throughout the year, many residential trips including sports, fishing and adventure activities are provided.
The activities run by Recharge are overseen by professional workers with a background in addictions recovery and supported by dedicated peer volunteers who have been through similar struggles and are now giving back to the community.
