NEC caravan show: From £200k motorhomes to one made out of Lego bricks, find out what's on offer at this year's show
Happy campers turned out to marvel at some of the most stylish caravans around.
But few of those at the Motorhome and Caravan Show will have had the cash to drive off with the most luxurious models which cost more than many houses.
At the top end is the super sleek Flair 920 LE Neismann and Bischoff mobile home – yours for just £192,386!
Plush leather seats, granite kitchen worktops, a 24 inch television and comfy carpets are just some of the features customers dig deep for.
But even more cash could be easily spent kitting out the motorhome.
Sales manager Nick Barker said customers often spend an extra £20,000 to make sure their new toy is just right – paying thousands more for different paintwork and upholstery.
Despite the price, the motorhome has been a hit with visitors travelling to the show since it opened at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) on Tuesday.
Mr Barker added: “Some people live in them full time, others for the rest of their lives, some perhaps just for three or four years and then they sell them.
“It’s not necessarily retired people buying them, they are often businessmen who want to grab lazy days or have a bit of freedom.”
Marketing assistant Charley Anderson said customers had been enticed by the motorhome’s luxury, adding: “Customers want motorhomes to do everything.
“For me, it’s the size – there’s so much space, especially in the wash room area.”
Thousands of people from across the country are set to travel to the city venue for the UK’s largest vehicle show.
Spanning 11 halls at the NEC, more than 700 leisure vehicles will be under one roof until Sunday.
From caravans and motorhomes, to campervans, trailer tents and holiday homes, the show brings together leading UK and European manufacturers for customers looking to find a bit of tranquility. Rose Burton travelled with husband Michael from their Stafford home to enjoy the mammoth show yesterday.
The pair decided to join thousands of others trailing through hundreds of vehicles to find solar panels for their latest motorhome purchase. She said: “I have got a motorhome so we just thought we would come and have a day out. I like the freedom and it’s less expensive. We want to do a lot of travelling.” Tucked away within the winding stalls, the star attraction of the show was a Lego brick caravan.
The Guiness World Record holder left visitors amazed at its 215,158 interlocking plastic blocks.
It was crafted as a ‘fun way’ to raise awareness of the show, taking more than 12 weeks to build. Ann McMamee, of Birmingham, said guests had been left fascinated by the quirky caravan. The grandmother-of-two added: “I think it’s amazing. It will bring out imagination.
“It’s absolutely phenomenal, I haven’t seen anything like it.” Another of the caravans to attract attention was the cute Barefoot model.
The retro design is described as being based on a British classic and said to be perfect for those who love to travel at the drop of a hat wherever it may be. Prices for the Barefoot start at £20,000 with customers again able to add specifications. Brummie chef Rustie Lee was sharing her passion for Caribbean-style cooking at today’s show, telling the audience how to whip up dishes in their caravans.
Front man of Channel 4’s Car SOS Tim Shaw will join the event on Saturday, along with MasterChef finalist Dean Edwards.
