MeMe releases Bowie tribute Ashes To Ashes
Her summer single release How She Runs was a big success, and now MeMe Detroit is back with a tribute to one of her musical heroes.
The Brummie grunge girl - a former Unsigned page star in The Ticket - is releasing her latest track on November 10, a cover of David Bowie's smash hit Ashes To Ashes.
It will drop via her own founded label SoulRock Central Records.
She says she was inspired by Bowie 'thanks to a box of hand-me-down vinyls passed through the generations', and now MeMe does her own guitar-driven take on this classic.
The single was recorded with engineer and producer Alastair Jamieson, who has previously worked with The Jesus And Mary Chain and Duran Duran, at Park Studios, Birmingham. It was then mastered by Jon Astley at Close To The Edge (The Who, Tori Amos, The Rolling Stones, Stereophonics, Judas Priest).
"When choosing to take on such an iconic track as this, I knew that I'd have to make it my own so that's exactly what I set out to do," said MeMe, who also saw her band play live at Silverstone racetrack this year as part of the MotoGP weekend. "Bowie was a true individual who stood out away from the crowds. To me that sends an important message to always be true to yourself and don't feel you have to be a sheep to society."
