Written by Devon Williamson, this hilarious play follows the adventures of three generations of the female members of the Smith family, as they attempt to train their men to do their bidding. You are promised laugh-out loud and cringe-worthy moments in equal measure, but guaranteed evening of fun and games.

Mum of two, Sally Berger takes the role of Jessica, a daughter, a granddaughter and newlywed.

“I had only read the first couple of pages of the script before deciding that I would really like to play the role,” says Sally. “Jessica is a funny, headstrong character with some brilliantly sarcastic one liners. During the play, she invents some training of her own which leads to some very funny consequences!”

“The most fun part of playing Jessica is that we’re not too dissimilar. We’re around the same age, both married for under five years, both sometimes wanting to strangle our partners (she’s joking, of course!) and so it’s been a very easy role to fall into. The most difficult part of this play so far, aside from having quite a lot of lines to learn, has been trying to keep a straight face!” she laughs.

With a small cast of just seven actors, it is important that everyone gets on together.

“We’re having so much fun!” says Sally. “We’re having to portray a very tight knit group of family and friends and luckily we all like each other at get along very well. In fact, the majority of us have been friends for years and already feel like family anyway.”

The actors are pivotal to the success of a production of course, but so is the director. I ask Sally if she had learnt anything during the rehearsal process for the play. She was very complimentary.

“Our director Becky has been nothing but supportive, encouraging and really keen to have our input into our individual characters,” she says “It is always enjoyable to work with a director who has the imagination to steer the play in the direction it needs to go, but who will also have the patience to let you tweak your character and try a number of ways of performing until you find the one that feels comfortable and works the best.”
