The Doctor Who and Broadchurch star is appearing in a new film produced by his wife, and fellow actress Georgia Moffett.

The film You, Me and Him, which had its premiere at Cineworld, in Broad Street, also stars her father, the former Dr Who Peter Davison.

Fans cheers and posed for pictures with the stars as they made their way along the red carpet for Saturday's premiere.

Tennant, dressed in a smart grey suit, was accompanied by his wife who wore a bright blue dress.

They both posed for selfies with fans and signed autographs before heading into the cinema.

Also starring in the film is Shropshire actor Christian Brassington, who hails from Wellington. He also plays the lecherous Reverend Osborne Whitworth in Poldark.

TV chef Ainsley Harriott, radio DJ Ed James and Midlands Today host Nick Owen were among the celebrities to appear at the glitzy night.

You, Me and Him tells the story of lesbian couple Olivia and Alex, played by Lucy Punch and Faye Marsay.

As the question of pregnancy rears its head and their neighbour John, played by Tennant, befriends them, they both start making some truly disastrous decisions.

The premiere was held in aid of Baby Lifeline charity which is based in Balsall Common, near Solihull.

Tennant is an ambassador for the charity Baby Lifeline’s £5 million Monitoring for Mums appeal.

It provides maternity and neonatal equipment for maternity services nationally, and the premiere has helped raised funds.

Tennant said: "It is unthinkable that any child might die that has a chance at life. Baby lifeline strives to make sure every new baby has all the facilities, care and opportunity they deserve."

Coronation Street actor Jimmi Harkishin, comedian Arabella Weir, and cast members from BBC daytime drama Doctors were also pictured at the premiere.

The evening saw the cast and director of the film Daisy Aitkens take part in a Q and A with the audience.

Baby Lifeline founder Judy Ledger added: "Baby Lifeline is delighted with the amazing support for the premiere from Cineworld Broad Street, Film Birmingham, Park Regis Hotel, Heart FM and the cast and producers of You, Me and Him.

"It was amazing to bring the premiere home to Birmingham. Having a global star like David Tennant as an ambassador for the charity is immeasurable.

"Bringing the premiere here is a great coup for the Birmingham and the Midlands and we're delighted to have been able to share the work Baby Lifeline does with a wider audience."
