Meta4Dance is raising money to fund its scheme, Project 21, aimed at increasing awareness around individuals living with learning difficulties in Shropshire.

The first fundraiser featured dance performances from Derwen College and Dylan Davies as well as live music and refreshments at an event at Morris Hall.

The company, with directors from Shropshire, is based in London and says it will use funds raised to help integrate people with learning difficulties into social groups, help find sustainable careers, pinpoint key skills and boost the confidence of those involved.

Charlie Dunne, who runs Meta4Dance, said: “The fundraising event was fantastic and proved to be a vital step in continuing this project.

"The idea is to provide participants with the unique experience of working within a processional contemporary dance company, helping them to build confidence and achieve aspirations they felt were unachievable.

“We aim to establish an amateur performance group within Shropshire where disabled artists have the opportunity to work and create alongside one another in a semi-professional environment – a group where they can create work to take to festivals, independent performances and any other relevant events.

"It's a three phase project, with phase one being to work with five disabled artists to create a powerful performance to tour Shropshire.

"Following this, we'll engage those living with learning difficulties around the county via outreach workshops before aiming to form a regular performance group for people to attend."

All proceeds from the event will be used to support young people with learning difficulties across the county.
