Special textile exhibition held at Shrewsbury Library
A special exhibition is taking place in Shrewsbury this week to showcase the work of those who entered a special textile competition.
The Shrewsbury Drapers’ Company is a long established guild which was granted a Royal Charter in 1462 and has held a competition for people of all ages.
The guild has been running almshouses continuously since 1444. Today the organisation is a volunteer-led charity encompassing the skills of volunteers from all walks of life.
To maintain a link with the heritage of trade in woollen cloth during medieval times, the Shrewsbury Drapers’ Company has held its annual Textile Design Competition for over 25 years.
There is a different theme every year and this year’s theme was ‘The Four Seasons’.
The competition was for a piece of textile work and there were four categories in the competition including amateur adults, students aged 16-22 and the Young Textile Design Competition for school students in Key Stage 3 (years 7,8,9) and Key Stage 4 ( years 10,11)
Now the work of those who took part is being shown at Shrewsbury Library, Castle Gates, SY1 2AS . It runs until Saturday, November 23.
