New head butler appointed at Weston Park
A new head butler has been appointed at a Weston Park.
Barry Fairhurst, who has worked for some of the finest houses in the country, including a position held in the Royal Household, has been appointed at Weston Park.
He will be taking on a position that has been central to the running of Weston Park since the house was built in the 17th century.
Barry’s will take the place of Graeme Currie, who had held the post for 10 years but has now moved into private service.
Like Graeme, Barry’s name will be added to a celebrated list of head butlers who themselves become part of the colourful history of Weston Park.
As well as working in service, Barry’s career spans all aspects of front of house, events and catering. He has held positions at establishments such as Scott’s Restaurant in Mayfair and The Elms manor house in Worcestershire. His time with the Royal Household was spent at Buckingham Palace as Butler to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal family.
The ancestral home of the Earls of Bradford, Weston is owned and maintained by the Weston Park Foundation and is available as a venue for house parties, celebrations and events. It has a distinctly 21st century outlook, but blends this seamlessly with its illustrious past by maintaining traditions such as the position of Head Butler and Head Gardener.
Colin Sweeney, chief executive of the Weston Park Foundation, says. “Whether celebrating a special occasion or enjoying one of our dine and stay breaks, our guests are here to relax and unwind. Barry will be here to offer all our guests the warmth and hospitality that Weston is renowned for and, with his excellent experience, I know that he will be a wonderful addition to the team.
“From Prime Ministers to presidents, princes to pop princesses there are times when Weston Park is called upon to host VIP occasions, which will also be central to Barry’s role as head butler.”
Barry, who is from Worcestershire, says, “The events and occasions hosted at Weston Park are so varied that this is part of what will make this such an exciting position, along with the glorious surroundings and excellent team that’s already in place. It’s also a much-loved place, and I look forward to welcoming returning guests and giving them the very best experience they could hope for.”
