Pigs are latest arrival at animal park
These adorable week-old pigs are the latest residents of an animal attraction.
The kunekune pigs were born at Scotty's Donkeys at Apley Farm Shop in Norton last week, and owner Tony Scott said people are already flocking to see them.
It's just another sign that the rare breed – which at one point only had 50 purebred breeding pairs in the world – is now well on its way back to healthy numbers.
The placid animals love a bit of human attention, and are very intelligent and easy to train.
"They're a small, friendly breed of pig," Tony said. "People have them for pets.
"People are flocking to see them. Once they know there's been piglets born, they travel for miles to see them."
And while they're cute and tiny for now, Scott said they're definitely not micro-pigs.
"I don't think there's any such thing as a micro-pig," he said.
"Everybody that seems to have a micro-pig, they grow into a massive one. I'm offered micro-pigs every single day, and none of them would stay small if I took them.
"It's growing into a bigger problem. They're told they're micro-pigs, and there's no such thing. It's just the runt of the litter. I've heard of people especially buying runts because they don't grow.
"Something should be done about it really. There's a lot of money changing hands."
Visitors to the farm will be able to see the pigs throughout the summer, when a series of events will be held for families.
On Thursday 24th August the farm will be visited by Peter Rabbit, Raphael from the Ninja Turtles and Skye from Paw Patrol.
