Severn Valley Railway in On the Buses event
One of the oldest preserved buses will be on display to enthusiasts during an event next month.
Severn Valley Railway will host its annual On the Buses event on September 10.
Guests will be able to enjoy steam train rides along the line stopping-off at Bewdley Station, to enjoy the popular bus gala.
This year, the emphasis will be on London Transport Vehicles, with a number of examples on display, including the star attraction – a 1914 LNWR 'Torpedo' Charabanc - one of the oldest buses in preservation, courtesy of the London Transport Museum.
Other historic examples will include a 1959 AEC Routemaster RM 5 and a 1962 AEC Routemaster RM 1005.
Flying the flag for modern London transport will be a new Routemaster for London "Boris Bus" - most likely the first ever visit to Worcestershire of the type.
If admiring from the outside wasn’t enough, people will be able to get on board to enjoy free rides around Bewdley town and Stourport-on-Severn on board a range of historic buses.
At the station, visitors can see a range of beautifully-preserved buses from all regions and eras on show, browse a selection of bus memorabilia and information stalls and enjoy a bite to eat from the hot pork roll stand while watching the buses go by.
Lewis Maddox, the SVR’s events and Footplate Experience co-ordinator, said: “Our bus gala is a very popular date in our visitor calendar and is a very fun and interesting way to enjoy a day out with a difference on the Railway.
“Not only can people experience an exciting steam train ride along our line, but they can also enjoy a VIP ride on one of the beautifully-preserved vintage vehicles in attendance, and that’s an opportunity not to be missed.”
Admission is free with a Freedom of the Line ticket or it is £2 for those without tickets to travel. All proceeds will go to the upkeep of Bewdley Station.
Parking is not available at Bewdley Station during the event but free parking is available at Bewdley High School, which is a short walk away.
