It's beginning to look a lot like Christmases past at Attingham Park

Attingham Park is turning back the clocks this Christmas, with its Christmas experiences themed around the 1940s.

The National Trust estate near Shrewsbury has a number of themed Christmas trees throughout its stately home, and is offering a retro Christmas day out. Inside the Mansion the showrooms are individually themed and decorated to celebrate the Christmases of days gone by with music, photographs and more.

Old papers, stories and traditions feature throughout the mansion, including in the basement.

And on selected dates 1940s-themed cooks will be found in the kitchen, baking and preparing recipes from the time.

This year visits to the mansion are by pre-booked tickets, available to book online or via the central booking office.

The 1940s experiences run until December 23 and there will be three entry periods on each day; between 10am and midday, midday and 2pm, and 2pm and 3.30pm.

There is no additional charge to visit the mansion but all visitors must have pre-booked their ticket in advance, including National Trust members.

Claire Tafft, visitor experience manager, said: “With a Christmas tree in almost every room in the mansion there’s plenty of lights and decorations to see – look out for the toy train running around the base of the tree in the entrance hall, and the ‘tea’ themed tree in the dining room.”

To book visit nationaltrust.org.uk/attingham-park/whats-on or by calling 03442 491895.

There is no need to book a ticket to visit the parkland, walled garden, Carriage House Café or Stables Shop.

Visits to anywhere onsite except the mansion remain on a free-flow basis.
