The Wolverhampton-born actress, who is currently playing the Magical Mermaid in the Birmingham Hippodrome pantomime Peter Pan, took a break between shows to visit the Sea Life Centre with her co-star Darren Day.

The showbiz pair got up up close and personal with two of the biggest and oldest giant green sea turtles in Britain, taking the time to feed 78-year-old Gulliver and his companion Mo a lunch of lettuce and broccoli.

Comedian Meera, who grew up in Essington, also posed next to the mermaid statue housed in the tropical ocean tank, also occupied by black-tip reef sharks and colourful reef fish.

The National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham came to the rescue of Gulliver, who was brought to the UK in the 1940s as a small hatchling turtle to appear in a TV ad for a popular soap brand, and Molokai who was illegally imported as a hatchling more than 40 years ago and confiscated by customs officers at Heathrow Airport.

Performances of Peter Pan continue at the Hippodrome until Sunday(27th).
