Staff and volunteers were joined by members of the public in the Square on Saturday to create a giant birthday cake.

To mark the special milestone, entry to Shrewsbury Museum and Art gallery was also free all weekend.

It was an opportunity to see the popular teddy bear exhibition which is currently on display and features many iconic bears, including Winnie the Pooh and Paddington Bear.

Since opening on April 1, 2014, more than 415,963 have visited the gallery for a range of different events and exhibitions.

And the Stop.Cafe has served up nearly 100,000 slices of cake. Fay Bailey, Shropshire Museum’s service manager, said: “We’re delighted to have welcomed so many visitors over the last five years. We’re celebrating five years with a packed programme of workshops, films, exhibitions and events for 2019 which showcase Shropshire’s talented artists and makers.”

Over the past five years Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery has held 36 special exhibitions including Lego, Vikings and secret Egypt.
