The Queen’s granddaughter joined other leading riders for the event, set in the grounds of the country estate on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border.

The 37-year-old, who is a regular at the event, impressed on her novice horses Match My Class and Gladstone, who was placed eighth out of a field of 34.

Other famous faces included Shropshire’s Oliver Townend, who competed against Tindall.

Press officer Rachael Morley said the royal rider pulled a big crowd. “She rode in two novice classed with two novice horses and did extremely well,” she said.

“She’s been a number of times and competed with some of her advanced horses too. Of course people love to watch her ride and it was a lovely sunny day for people to do so.”

The Olympian was a member of the two British teams that won silver at the 2014 World Equestrian Games and the 2012 London Olympic Games where she was eighth on her mount High Kingdom individually. And she was not the only famous face to take on the courses which were spread out over a 1,000-acre site.

Olympian William Fox-Pitt, international rider Izzy Taylor and Shropshire’s Oliver Townend all took to the courses, which is seen as a preliminary to Badminton Horse Trials, which take place early next month.

The cross country course was designed by organiser of the event, Janet Plant. It runs over 1,000 acres of rolling wooded parkland and the fences varied from solid structures to water jumps and brush fences.

She said: “It continues to be a great privilege to design on this wonderful estate and we are delighted to welcome IEC Equine Solutions as a new sponsor, giving a tremendous boost to the event.”
