Members of Friends of Stanmore Country Park said they have an "ambitious vision" for the attraction to the east of Bridgnorth, and are looking for other like-minded people to help maintain and develop the 40 hectares of land.

This would include enhancing the broad diversity of existing flora and fauna highlighted in an ecology report commissioned by Shropshire Council in the summer last year.

Dependent on grant funding, a large part of the work would be to open up woodland corridors to connect the various green spaces throughout the park, as well as upgrade existing footpaths.

The group also hopes to build on the success of the Green Flag Community Award granted in 2020, while retaining it in 2021.

Andy Howard, chairman of the Friends group, said: "Perhaps you have personally enjoyed Stanmore Country Park and it has helped you to retain some normality in your life during this challenging time, or perhaps you enjoy being outdoors and want the opportunity to meet like-minded people and make a real contribution to your local community.

"Regardless of whether you have a few hours to spare once a month or once a year, Stanmore Country Park needs you.”

The Friends group has been partnered with Shropshire Council to manage the park since 2013.

It had been included for development in the council's local plan review, which sets out where housing and business land can be built until 2038, but fierce opposition from the community saw the proposals axed.
