Curtain set to rise on Aladdin panto at Bridgnorth’s Theatre on the Steps
One of the most popular pantomimes, Aladdin, takes to the stage at Bridgnorth’s Theatre on the Steps in January.
The production, written by Alan Frayn, will begin on January 5 and run through to January 26.
Filled with slapstick comedy, music and lively dance, Aladdin tells the story of the wicked Abanazar, played by Ben Hollas, who is determined to rule the world using the power from the Genie of the Lamp.
Young Aladdin, played by Emily Turner, is hopelessly in love with Princess Mandarin, Abigael Russell, but needs to become wealthy.
The backdrops, designed and painted by James Barber and Cheryl Wilson, provide colourful settings enhanced by the costumes made by Susan Crawford.
Aladdin is directed by Christine Reddihough, with musical direction by Julian Brown and Poppy Mansfield as choreographer.
Artistic director Iain Reddihough said: “Pantomime is always fun for both the cast and the audiences – there is nothing better for the cast than seeing and hearing the whole audience joining in with the fun. Especially so as so many children come and see the panto, and for many it is their first taste of live theatre
"We always do our best to make sure that our pantomimes are a great introduction to the magic of theatre. Running our pantomime throughout January means that, after all the hectic activity in the run-up to Christmas, families can relax and come along and enjoy the this great tradition of the Theatre on the Steps panto.”
