Jim Davidson's Telford show tonight is still on despite arrest
Controversial TV funnyman Jim Davidson this afternoon confirmed he would be taking to the stage in Telford tonight – a day after he was rearrested for further alleged sex offences.
The 59-year-old answered bail yesterday and was held for more questioning. He has been released on bail until May and his solicitor Henri Brandman said his client 'vigorously denies' all the allegations.
The former Big Break and Generation Game host said he would be performing tonight at Oakengates Theatre as part of his spring tour.
Mr Davidson said in a statement: "Contrary to some reports, this remains one of my favourite parts of the country, it never crossed my mind not to accept the booking at Oakengates Theatre and I look forward to the evening. It should be a great night and I have some very funny, and interesting, stories to tell."
Brian Shaw, Mr Davidson's promoter, said: "He has been on tour now since February 12 and the position regarding the future of the tour remains unchanged.
"He has not been charged with anything, vigorously denies the allegations made against him and is looking forward to his return to Telford."
Mr Davidson, who caused controversy in 2007 when he vowed never to perform in Telford again after a row with a local hotel, had to cancel some performances following his initial arrest in January. After this Mr Brandman said: "Jim vigorously denies the allegations. He has not been charged with any offence. Neither he nor I will be making a further comment."
Davidson answered bail yesterday after he was held in January by detectives working on Operation Yewtree, the national investigation prompted by the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said a 59-year-old man had been 'further arrested on suspicion of sexual offences in connection with further allegations made to Operation Yewtree.'
He is also due to appear on stage at the Regal Cinema in Tenbury Wells tomorrow.
