Just a handful of the 750 tickets remain for the American comic's show next Thursday, which will form part of Ludlow Arts Festival.

Director Chris Davis said all performances were still selling well and that sales had gone "well past" the break even target.

He said: "The ticket sales are not going badly at all, we are very pleased. There are not many left at all for Reginald D Hunter and we are expecting to be putting up the Sold Out signs very soon on that one."

Other performers include comic Paul Merton and stars of music including Jools Holland, 10CC, The Hollies and The Searchers at the festival, which will run from Saturday to June 30.

Classical music fans can look forward to a recreation of The Last Night of the Proms, presented by Gyles Brandreth and featuring the English National Philharmonic Orchestra and a fireworks display.
