St Mary Magdalene Church, in Quatford, was given the Silver Award under the international Eco Church initiative.

To gain the award, members of the church, which was built in 1086 and features in the Domesday Book, had to demonstrate their clear commitment to the conservation and care of the environment.

The initiative promotes the shared values of worship and teaching, management of church buildings and land, community and lifestyle.

The first Eco Church award, which is part of the A Rocha UK group of Christian organisations, was awarded to St Paul’s Cathedral in 2016.

Since then, more than 400 churches throughout the country, including St Mary Magdalene church in Bridgnorth town centre and Saint Calixtus Church in Astley Abbotts, have received an award.

Participating churches complete a survey, with differing answers awarding points which in turn go towards a bronze, silver or gold award.
