The 108th Newport Show at Chetwynd Deer Park will take place on Saturday, playing host to agriculture, food and, for the first time, live bands.

Headlining will be the Red Hot Chilli Pipers in the main arena.

The show’s star guest is last year’s Bake Off winner Candice Brown, who will create her favourite recipes and share hints and tips with visitors.

The event will feature a variety of attractions including a food festival, livestock and a dog and horse show. Richard Maddocks, president of the society, said: “It should be a really good day, my whole family has been involved in the creation and running of the show since 1949.

“The phones have been red hot all week and it is too early to say how many people we are expecting.”

He added: “The show is a great family day out and there is something for everyone.

“This year is set to be the best show yet.”

The weather is set to hold up in time for the show, which some years has resulted in mud slides.

Every year the Newport Show offers a school marquee where local pupils are invited to turn up and show visitors their creative skills.

Dippy the Clown and birds of prey will be making an appearance in the village green and visitors can watch the Inter Hunt relay and foxhounds in the main ring.

Tickets are £15 for an adult and £5 for a child, but are selling out quickly.

As well as the show, the society continues to support learning through the entire year, making the Lodge at the Deer Park available to schools and other groups free of charge.
