The Bishop’s Castle Colour Run will take place once more this autumn, after a first fundraising event last year proved a big success.

2016's inaugural colour run in the south Shropshire town was one of a range of events in aid of the Save the SpArC campaign to support the town's leisure centre.

At that time the future of the centre was uncertain with fears it would close if it didn't find urgent funding.

Now Shropshire Council has included the SpArC in a list centres it intends to keep running in the future – but it will still need substantial support from the community to keep it viable.

Now organisers of last year's colour run have set a another date for this year, and plan to make it an annual event .

Organiser Debbie O’Shea, said: “This year's event is on September 16 and we hope to attract people of all ages to take part in this fun family event whilst at the same time raising money for SpArC."

The newly formed Save the SpArC charity has recently been successful in the Shropshire Star cash for communities competition when they were awarded £575, which will go towards organising the colour run.

Mandy Cooke, SpArC trustee, added: "The cash for communities money will really help put on this event which we hope will be bigger than last year and beat last year’s fund raising total of over £3,000.

"We are very grateful to everyone who cut out and saved tokens for us and to the Shropshire Star and their partner Enterprise for sponsoring the cash for communities awards."

Anyone interested in taking part in the 5k colour run can register online at www.entrycentral.com/bishopscastlecolourrun.

The entry fee is £10 and those under 5 can run for free.
