Do it for David plea

A campaign inspired by David Attenborough takes to a town centre this weekend.

Mandy Price, an Art and Drama Teacher from Oswestry School, who launched an anti-plastic campaign after getting inspiration from David Attenborough's Blue Planet with pupils Jac Herbert 13, Scarlett Vaughan 12 and Isabella Morris 12.

Mandy Price and her daughter, Becky, from Oswestry were so horrified when the presenter highlighted the problem of plastics in the world's oceans, they set up a social media group, #doitfordavid.

In the past few weeks they have organised litter picks both in Oswestry and further afield on Welsh beaches. They have even helped write a Do it for David song.

They have also sourced alternatives to plastics and used facebook and twitter to put the message of alternatives across.

On Saturday they and other volunteers will hold a plastic awareness day on a stall on Oswestry market, in conjunction with the town council.

Mandy, a teacher at Oswestry School, said: "We will be giving people ideas on how to reduce their plastic consumption, handing out leaflets on recycling and selling beeswax wraps and are hoping to source some children's books about plastic pollution.

"There will be some children's art activities and face painting from about 11.30am and around mid day, I am hoping that the chapel choir from Oswestry school will come to sing our new Do it for David song. The council will also have a stall where they will give information about their plans to introduce a new energy scheme and their plans for plastic."
