Fleetwood Mac are being touted as Glastonbury’s star headliner for the festival’s 50th anniversary.

The veteran rockers have been the bookmakers’ favourites to headline the Pyramid Stage since 2015, after they were rumoured to be in talks to perform at that year’s event.

However, each year since then, festival co-founder Michael Eavis has dashed fans’ hopes that the folk and blues outfit will finally play Worthy Farm.

Betway gives Fleetwood Mac odds of 5/4 to headline the festival next year, after Sir Paul McCartney at evens.

The Beatle last played the Pyramid Stage in 2004, delivering a set spanning his career from his time in the Fab Four to Wings and his solo material.

Foals are third favourite for a headline slot with odds of 7/4, after playing a secret set on the festival’s Park Stage last year.

The Oxford four-piece previously played the Pyramid Stage in 2016 before Muse.

Whole Lotta Love rockers Led Zeppelin could also make an appearance.

The band last played together in 2007 at London’s O2 Arena, with the late John Bonham’s son Jason taking over duties on drums.

Betfair is offering odds of 5/2 that an invitation from the Eavis clan will lure them out of retirement.

Sir Elton John is on 11/4 while pop-rockers The 1975 have odds of 3/1, according to the bookmaker.

The Spice Girls are 5/1 to headline following their reunion stadium tour and rumours of an international follow-up.

This comes after Scary Spice Mel B – real name Melanie Brown – said the band had been in talks with Glastonbury organisers about performing at the last event.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Planning for next year’s Glastonbury Festival will already be under way and the Eavises will put on something very special for the event’s 50th anniversary.

“Foals are one of the big early fancies to get a headline spot at just 7/4. Their performance on the Park Stage certainly qualified them to get the nod for the Pyramid and they are one of the leading contenders to headline in 2020.

“The most likely headliners at this stage are Paul McCartney, who’s just evens to play for the first time since 2004, and Fleetwood Mac.

“Fleetwood Mac would be something really special for Glastonbury given they’ve never headlined before, and they’re very popular in the betting at 5/4.”
