Shropshire canal restoration parties moving apace
Two working parties per month will be helping to restore a section of Shropshire Union Canal up until the end of the year.
Volunteers are wanted to help rebuild the Montgomery Canal which flows through Shropshire and Mid Wales.
Levelling work is next to be done at the Crickheath end of the channel and waterproof lining installed.
So far the banks have been shaped at the correct angle and have been treated with cement.
At the other end the channel bed has been scraped out and a specialist carpet laid and covered with stone to provide a stable base for the digging machines.
Shropshire Union Canal Society said to compensate for time lost due to Covid-19 restrictions it will be running two work parties per month until Christmas.
Newcomers are welcome. More details are available on the society's website.
