Gregory Porter is one of the few stars who has managed to bring the jazz sound into the pop world.

Gregory Porter at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod

The man will a voice that laps over you like a gentle wave brought his unique blend of jazz, soul and gospel to the Llangollen International Eisteddfod on Friday and showed the audience just why he spans so many genres.

It may have been worlds away from a Harlem jazz club or Glastonbury, but Porter was completely at ease on the Eisteddfod stage telling the audience the festival was the essence of the spirit of music.

His band was spectacular, the musicians all excelling whether on the piano, trumpet or saxophone and obviously enjoyed their music.

Porter treated us to one blissful tune after another his voice as complete a musical instrument as any other on the stage.

For me the highlight was Take Me To The Alley with its stunning lyrics that many world leaders, never mind the rest of us, should listen to and take heed.

It was yet another triumph for the Llangollen Eisteddfod which once again this year has managed to bring to the Welsh border some of the best examples of so many genres of music.
