He is now the managing director of the Knight's Construction Group which has been named main sponsor of this year’s Llanfest.

The company owns and is developing number of sites in and around Llangollen including Grade II listed building Dinbren Hall and Tyn Dwr Hall, which was completed and launched as a luxury wedding venue in 2016. It was also appointed as principal contractor on the scheme to design and build a 2,855 square metre biomass facility for Tudor Griffiths Group.

Llanfest the finale party of the week long Eisteddfod, will be held on July 8, with the Kaiser Chiefs, The Hoosiers and Toploader headlining.

Mr Jones said: “I remember being surrounded by the colour and excitement of the festival as I sold programmes on the field as a schoolboy at Ysgol Dinas Brân,” he said.

“I have also attended Llanfest every year since 2011. I love the way the Sunday event has developed into a true festival, attracting increasingly high calibre artists and a wider, more contemporary audience to the town each year.”

“The International Eisteddfod is at the heart of the local community in Llangollen. As a company developing sites across North Wales and Shropshire we are keen to support initiatives and events that raise the profile of area on a national and international stage. We certainly see this year’s sponsorship as the start of a long-term partnership. This year’s Llanfest really does boast a world-class line up and we’re looking forward to a upbeat and energetic finale for Llangollen 2018.”

Multi-platinum English indie pop legends Kaiser Chiefs shot to stardom in 2005 with their album Employment and are best known for songs including Oh My God, I Predict a Riot and Ruby. They will be joined on the bill by pop rock band, The Hoosiers and ninetiesband , Toploader.

Llanfest is a recent addition to the International Eisteddfod, which is already renowned for its choral music, opera galas and classical concerts, as well as world music, jazz, rhythm and blues and folk music performances. It welcomes more than 4,000 performers and competitors and up to 50,000 visitors to the Welsh town across the week.

Llanfest brought Welsh band Manic Street Preachers to the Eisteddfod last year.

This year's event will see the pavilion’s rear seating once again being removed to increase capacity to more than 5,200, making it one of the festival’s biggest ever gigs.

Chairman of the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Dr Rhys Davies, said: “We would like to thank Knights Construction Group for their support of Llanfest, which grows in scale and popularity each year.

“We look forward to a fantastic festival and working with Matt and his team, which is striving to develop beautiful sites across Llangollen and raise its profile even further as a globally renowned destination.”
