Garden gates open for charity
A secret well, unearthed during recent resorations will be unveiled at an open garden day on Bank Holiday Monday.
Bodfach Hall gardens in Llanfyllin will be open on May 28 to raise funds for three charities.
Owners, Simon and Maggie Baynes, are restoring the gardens and recently discovered the well which will be on show.
As well as 10 acres of garden, surrounded by parkland there will be live music provided by Maldwyn Strings, an art exhibition by the pupils of Llanfyllin High School, a children’s play area, over 15 craft and charity stalls selling a range of products including children’s books, plants and honey products and tea and cake.
Formal, courtyard and cottage gardens complement Georgian and Victorian architecture and there is even a small lake and Victorian dog kennels to see.
The gardens will be open from 2-5.30pm with admission £3.50, children free. The proceeds will be shared between National Gardens Scheme charities and two local charities, the Friends of St. Myllin’s Church and the farming charity with helps farmers in Africa, Dolen Ffermio.
Gardens at Hyssington and Llandinam will also be open for the National Gardens Scheme over the bank holiday weekend and Grandma’s Garden at Machynlleth is open on
May 30.
Three very different gardens in and around Hyssington are open on May 26 and 27 from 1-5:30pm, Gorsty House, an ongoing renovation of a two acre, neglected garden, The Old Barn a hideaway and Llanerch Lodge, a smallholding in the lee of Roundton Hill, with sheep and poultry as well as a productive garden. The combined admission is £5, children free.
Little House near Llandinam with ponds, woodland, a sensory garden, a water grotto and alpine/cactus house, is opn on May 7 from 1-5pm with admission £3.50, children free.
Perfect for a half-term visit, Grandma’s Garden at Machynlleth is open for the National Garden Scheme on Wednesday 30 May between 10.30am and 4.30pm. The garden
includes seven small gardens. The garden can be found at Dolguog Estates, Felingerrig, Machynlleth, SY20 8UJ. Admission adults £4, children £1.50.
