A one-day music festival on a Shropshire farm is to return this summer – and this year will be raising money for a five-year-old's cancer treatment.

The Farmhouse Blues festival, put on by the long running South Shropshire Blues Club, will be raising money for Rupert's Revenge, it has also been announced.

The event was staged for the first time last year, turning the village of Wheathill, between Ludlow and Bridgnorth, into "Bluesville" for one day and raising money for Cancer Research UK.

This year the event will also add Rupert's Revenge to it's beneficiaries, a charity to help Bridgnorth boy Rupert Beckett as his family aims to raise £750,000 to send him to America for pioneering cancer treatment not available in the UK.

The, complete with camping, will be held on August 5 and aims to bring together the best local artists plus big names from the blues world, between 2pm and 10pm.

Founder and organiser Maurice Arnold said: "As you are all aware the South Shropshire Blues Club raises money for Cancer Research UK, but this year we are also raising money for Ruperts Revenge. Rupert is the son of a local farmer and is seriously ill with a rare cancer.

"Situated on a stunning piece of farmland between Ludlow and Bridgnorth we’ll start the afternoon with some chilled acoustic blues before kicking it up a notch or ten in the evening with foot-stompingly good live electric performances."

The South Shropshire Blues Club's monthly nights at Ludlow Brewery regularly sell out, most recently with Patsy Gamble and her Hipkiss Band from Gloucestershire headlining.

The next club events include a Blues Jam at the Rose and Crown in Church Street, Ludlow on April 21, free admission with optional donations for Cancer Research UK.

On May 6 the club will be back at Ludlow Brewery, this time with Chris Jagger – brother of Mick – and his band the Kronies headlining, supported by regulars, Jack Brett and Blue Moon.
