Deep Love Foundation talk ahead of Shropshire Oktoberfest appearance
Deep Love Foundation disappeared after their last show with The Damned in 2007 – now they’re back and better than ever, ready to wow crowds at Shropshire’s first Oktoberfest celebration.
An unfortunate set of circumstances led the band to separate, and kept them apart for a further ten years.
“A lot of family commitments and unforeseen life changing circumstances kept us apart musically unfortunately.” says bassist Bazini Corinaldi.
But tragedy brought the trio back together, and they found that the time was right to raise Deep Love Foundation from the ashes.
“The Premature death of John Lockley, our guitarist and vocalist Paul Lockley’s older brother, was the catalyst for the reformation” drummer Gaz Ayres told us.
“The Deep Love boys were at the funeral to support Paul through a very difficult time. It was on this day where initial talks about ‘getting it on’ again were first mentioned.”
“The only thing that’s different now is a few more grey hairs, and man we can sing the blues so much better now!” Paul adds.
The band have plans to re-enter the studio in 2018, fuelled by the fire of their split and musical re-birth since their reformation.
“Love, Loss and Re-Birth are at the core of Deep Love Foundations creativity” says Paul.
“We feel our next stage is to record some songs and then lots of festivals next year!
“Musically we are even better as players now and are excited to go into the studio for the big thrill.”
“Deep Love Foundation is a big extended family and we just got straight back into the saddle.” Gaz adds.
The trio say that pure chance and fate brought them together, following chance meetings playing in separate musical acts.
This meeting of minds produced a high energy and intense sound that pays homage to their love for classic rock and blues, bringing it to the present.
“My earliest inspiration came from Marc Bolan, and progressed to heavier bands like Deep Purple, UFO and Thin Lizzy.” Says Paul.
“Guitarists like Randy Rhodes and Paul Gallagher still inspire him today, as well as Pete Way just for being Pete Way”
“My influences encompass the world of Latin Jazz with artists like Tania Maria ranging to the unstoppable force of Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Trapeze, Muse and The Jam” says Baz.
“Gaz being the junior in the band grew up listening to Michael Jackson, Iron Maiden, Ozzy and taking influence from the modern Punk scene.”
“Placed together the 3 of us draw inspiration from many areas and genres of music, which we feel pull together to create our sound.” Gaz says.
This unique sounds led the band to headline multiple venues across the UK, as well as scoring them a support slot with legendary punk band The Damned.
Ten years later, Deep Love Foundation are set to headline the first Shropshire Oktoberfest at Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park on October 7.
The event will take place from October 6 to October 8 channelling the spirit of the German celebration – with over 150 real ales, comedy, live music and amazing food.
The band will play alongside the likes of Black Bear Kiss, Brassic Oompah, Jonathan Markwood’s Hoo-Hah Conspiracy, Blackwork, The Endings, The Rainbreakers and Jack In A Box before their own set from 8.15pm until 9.15pm.
“We all feel privileged, excited and thrilled to play this festival.” says Gaz
“We will pull out all the stops to entertain. At present, this is the only chance fans will get to see us as we have no immediate plans to play in the future.
“I feel the theme is the same everywhere nowadays, more outdoor music events are needed. People seem to relax and enjoy music more at festivals.”
Deep Love Foundation are excited to get back onto the stage again to wow crowds.
The band are touched that they can play music together as friends once more, and are looking forward to what the future has in store.
“Getting Deep Love Foundation back together is the most amazing thing, and to have people remember us is truly incredibly.” says Paul.
“The Deep Love vibe from ten years ago is truly amazing.”
“No one can predict the future, but when Deep Love Foundation succeed there will be a lot more energy and love in the world!”
Deep Love Foundation will play Shropshire Oktoberfest at Shrewsbury’s Quarry Band on October 7.
The festival runs from October 6 until October 8.
