Peace, Kindness Is The New Rock and Roll - album review

There is something very Peace about their reaction to times of uncertainty in the era of Trump, Brexit and continued austerity.

Basically, it's two fingers to the lot of them and let's celebrate life.

The blueprint is set right from the opening with their joyful anthem of positivity Power.

'Kindness is a sign we've evolved' Harry Koisser sings on the McCartney-ish title track, 'I'm strong inside, I'm Silverlined' he adds on Silverlined with its delicious psychedelic guitar break. Meanwhile, You Don't Walk Away From Love has a Jagger-Richards' like swagger with a guitar flourish to match.

It's not all plain sailing though, the sweary From Under Liquid Glass looks at the debilitating effects of depression with it's fear that 'everybody's changing, blooming, moving on', everybody else that is.

Kindness Is The New Rock And Roll

The cherished inspiration of Angel seems under threat and maybe from the 'Devil' mentioned in the stomping Shotgun Hallelujah.

Just A Ride is an acoustic guitar-driven anthem in a Noel Gallagher vein and closer Choose Love is a stoned plea for peace, love and understanding which, once upon a time, would have seen lighters raised aloft at gigs.

So the Worcestershire indie rockers draw on classic rock, from The Beatles and Rolling Stones to Primal Scream and Oasis, for their third album.

There is also a hint of Black Country band The Wonder Stuff, right down to frontman Koisser's vocal style and Miles Hunt-like knack for a barbed lyric.

Peace have already sold out their gig at Birmingham O2 Academy on May 24.
