A long-running music festival for charity will return this weekend – maybe for the last time.

The Pheztival, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, is the longest running live music festival in Newport.

The free two-day festival, which takes place at The Pheasant in Upper Bar, is set to take place this weekend, and is expected to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity.

But, with Phez landlord and local legend Paul Quinn set to retire, it could be the final time the event is held.

There will be 16 acts at this year's Pheztival, although more than 400 bands came forward asking to be involved.

Organisers said the support continued to be overwhelming.

Ade Morris, who is behind the event, said: “Every year, the response just blows me away.

"I can’t thank people enough for offering their talent, time, and services for such an amazing event and worthy cause."

This is the 15th Pheztival, but it could be the last.

Mr Quinn, known locally as Quinnie, is set to retire as landlord shortly after having served 25 years at the helm of the Phez and 45 years within the county.

The night will include a number of surprises which Ade said will make this year's Pheztival one to remember.

But the focus will still be on raising money, and donations to Macmillan Cancer Support can be made on a completely voluntary basis during the event.

Ade said: "The generosity over the years has been very humbling, and tens of thousands of pounds has been raised for the worthy cause that affects so many."

Saturday will see performances by Guns for Girls, The Words, Lovebutter, Hana Piranha, Phattfoxx, Healthy Junkies, Dean Parker Band and The Crazy Gang.

Sunday's show will include Nathan Morton, Shannon Whetnall, Vinyl Tap, Hot Rod 55, Phoenix Rising, a singalong from The Greatest Showman, Loose Lips and Airbag.

The fun begins at 3pm on both days. For more information search The Pheztival on Facebook.
