Birmingham show for Kawala as part of Hopscotch tour
Acoustic guitar and vocal act Kawala are set to appear in Birmingham after joining one of the country's premier club night tours.
Hopscotch, powered by Utilita, will be heading out on tour across the nation for a second time this autumn after a successful run last year.
November will see three rising indie acts head out across the country as Hopscotch takes to the road. The six-date tour is the brain child of Radio 1 and MTV's Jack Saunders and also features Apre and Sun Silva alongside Kawala.
the tour stops off at the Second City's Actress & Bishop on November 10.
The duo started their musical journey while studying in Leeds and vocalist Jim Higson and singer/acoustic guitarist Dan McCarthy quickly developed their distinctive sound. Deriving from their joint love of close vocal harmony, and rhythmic finger-style acoustic guitar, the pair started writing songs inspired by the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and Half Moon Run.
After breaks on platforms such as Mahogany sessions as an acoustic indie-folk act, they quickly moved back to London with aim of expanding their sound. Now signed to Mahogany Records they are backed by a full band of Ben Batten on drums, bassist Reeve Coulson and Dan Lee on electric guitar.
A spokesperson said: "Kawala released their debut EP D.I.L.Y.D earlier this year, finding inspiration from a range of musical styles. Their sound has developed through the use of afrobeat-esque drums, atmospheric electric hooks and strong rhythmic bass, yet still maintaining the focus on the core two part vocal and acoustic."
