Market Drayton am dram group wins another award
Amateur dramatists have once again wowed judges after another one of their productions received a prestigious award.
Market Drayton Amdrams has seen its stage version of Treasure Island be named 'best pantomime' in the West Midlands District Two category of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association awards.
This makes a total of eight productions the group has had nominated for the NODA awards in the last six years, with five named as overall winners.
The group's unique version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island was performed in the Festival Drayton Centre last year.
Featuring pirates, heroic deeds and wicked villainy, the show was full of action and had a plethora of puns to please all ages. It was directed by Lorraine Jones and Ali Parrington.
Suzanne Edwards, Market Drayton Amdrams spokeswoman, said: “We are delighted to win yet another award. It is a great boost to the group and it shows we are going from strength-to-strength.
"It was a great pantomime. The feedback we got was very good. It was a little bit different from other pantomimes as it was modern and up-to-date.
"Our flagship productions are our pantomimes. They have been going for years and are what we are known for. People really look forward to them."
Market Drayton Amdrams has also recently performed Beauty and the Beat, A Flea in Her Ear and a stage version of hit television series The Vicar of Dibley.
Its version of The Vicar of Dibley was previously named 'best drama' in the NODA awards.
Mrs Edwards added: "We are hoping to attract more members. We would love to see more young people. They are the future!"
The group is currently in rehearsal for the well-known TV and stage comedy Outside Edge by Richard Harris set in a village cricket club.
It will be performed at the Festival Drayton Centre from June 15 to 17 at 7.30pm.
