Shropshire Street Cats charity to host fundraising event

Animal enthusiasts are hoping for the purr-fect day when they open to the public to raise money for a charity.

Shropshire Street Cats will hold its annual open afternoon at Longford, near Market Drayton, on September 10, from 2pm to 5pm.

There will be a variety of tea and homemade cakes as well as craft, plant and cat stalls.

At the event prizes will also be handed out to the winners of the charity's annual 'street' cat of the year competition.

The charity has been running the photo competition, which ended on Monday , in order to raise money to help care for rescue cats.

Prizes include a portrait sculpture, designer gifts and a life coaching session.

Jane Jones, one of the volunteers for Shropshire Street Cats, said: “It has become our annual open afternoon. There will be a presentation of prizes for the photo competition, lots of tea and cakes, tour of the cattery, craft stalls, cat stalls and plant stalls.

"It will hopefully be a nice family afternoon for people interested in cats.

"We did fantastically well last year and raised almost £1,000. We did brilliant and we hope to do just as well this year.

"All of the money raised will go towards setting up anther cattery pen in Market Drayton for our rescue cats."

The charity has cats and kittens of various ages ready for adoption. All of the cats are flead, wormed, chipped and at least first vaccinated and if old enough neutered. It also offer five week’s free health insurance on rehoming.
