These cute lambs are the newest tenants at the Fordhall Organic Farm near Market Drayton and will graze on the farm’s chemical-free pastures alongside Hereford and Aberdeen Angus cows and Gloucester Old Spot pigs.

Under the watchful eyes of the lambs’ mothers, farmer Ben Hollins heads up the staff to care for the newcomers.

The new lambs will be on show and available to be seen up close at the farm’s annual spring fair on April 28.

The event will include the lambing showcase, a falconry display and a dog show.

Opportunity

Mr Hollins and his sister Charlotte took over the tenancy of the community-owned farm in 2004 and they follow in the footsteps of their father Arthur in running the farm.

“I live on the farm with my family and I run the working farm here at Fordhall.

“I am carrying on my late father’s philosophies of organic production, whilst learning my own new ways of improving Fordhall. My livestock are 100 per cent free-range,” he said.

“Grazing in synchronisation with the cattle promotes all varieties of grass, both tall and short, to be grazed allowing thick and vigorous growth to continue in our pastures all year round.

“Our flock of sheep lamb at Fordhall each spring, generally late March or early April. And an opportunity to see our lambs up close and personal is always available at our annual spring fair.”
