Whitchurch Photographic Society was founded back in 1962 by a group of local photographic enthusiasts wanting to share knowledge and host events.

The group continues to this day, in a diverse and changing format with like-minded members from across Whitchurch and surrounding areas.

New members are always welcome at the group, said secretary Richard Priestley, as they look forward to hosting in person meetings again in the coming months.

He said: "We are a friendly group of people with many interests who range from beginners to experienced photographers.

"We would be very happy to have new members. Despite our name, we actually have members from both Whitchurch and Wem, and also Market Drayton, south Cheshire and north Shropshire.

"The society covers quite a wide area. I think we have around 38 members now and are very interested in having more.

"I suggest people have a look at the website and then get in touch with us. We host competitions, both internal and external with other clubs, so there is lots going on.

"Over the last year or so we have been meeting on Zoom, which has actually been quite successful. We are hoping to go back to face-to-face meetings by September."

In normal times, the group meets at the Senior Citizens Club, in Pearl Yard, Whitchurch, every Tuesday evening, from September to May, and on a monthly basis during the summer.

Richard said the group has a full calendar of interesting events that includes both internal competitions and external ones with other clubs, lectures by both guest speakers and club members, and practical photographic sessions, at Pearl Yard and other places of interest.
