The castle, near Oswestry, hosted the event on Saturday and Sunday which saw The Knights in Battle Medieval Society, a specialist re-enactment group, spend the weekend at the castle.

Members of the group staged a 13th century foot tournament which saw knights in chain mail pitched against each other in single combat.

After fine weather on Saturday, however, conditions were tricky yesterday, with heavy showers making it very slippery.

There were training fights without armour and some archery as well and camp cooks, who provided food for the knights.

Visitors also got the chance to get some hands-on experience of the weapons and armour used in the tournament.
