The Ironworks, on Church Street in Oswestry has in the past been a popular music venue for local bands and musicians.

It has been unused for well over a year but now the building has leased out and taken over.

James Selv, from Oswestry, who runs ‘Secret Sound System’ has been installed as events manager as he looks to bring a ‘dance scene’ back to Oswestry. A private DJ night was held recently, and the official re-opening of the venue takes place tomorrow.

Mr Selv said there is a gap in the market for a dance venue in Oswestry, and believes this is the perfect opportunity.

He said: “I’ve been doing the secret sound system and we do all the sound systems for the events at the Workhouse at Llanfyllin.

“I don’t know all the details of who purchased the building, but a friend of mine leases the building and wants me to run it as events manager. Last Friday we got the go ahead to start running events.

“There is a gap in the market for dance events in Oswestry, ever since The Vic closed there hasn’t been anything like that around here. The Ironworks has closed in the past but we are hoping this just gives Oswestry something a little different.”

The inside of the building was in good shape when Mr Selv took over the running of it, and with a few minor alterations the venue is ready to open. The upstairs area will be used to hire out for events, and downstairs will host theme nights, with the first being a Bierhaus German night tomorrow. The venue will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Mr Selv, who used to run record stores in the town, added: “It is quite a while since the Ironworks was open so it is good to get it back open.

“It is ready to go, we’ve got a lot of events planned and we hope it will be a success.”

The event begins in tomorrow at 8pm.
