Andrew picks up his paintbrush again for Oswestry exhibition
An artist who rediscovered painting more 30 years after he was put off by college, has put his work in an exhibition in Oswestry.
Andrew Evans, 64, was a talented young painter who went to art college in the 1970s to improve his skills.
"But all they seemed to be interested in was conceptual art - large white rooms with something strange in them," he said.
"It completely put me off and I got a job in the Post Office."
It wasn't until he left the Post Office that he picked up a brush again about 15 years ago and has found a new love for painting.
His exhibition is on at the Oswestry Visitor and Exhibition Centre until the end of June and includes landscapes and other subjects.
"I will often go for a walk and take photos of things that I see. I might then do a painting of the whole scene or use parts in a piece of art. I prefer paintings to photographs, it helps to get a real feel for the place."
"I love Oswestry, its a wonderful place to visit and find subjects for paintings."
Mr Evans, who lives at Johnstown near Ruabon has never learnt to drive and relies on public transport.
"I had to bring the paintings for the exhibition down on the bus, it was a bit of an operation getting them all here," he said.
