Scarecrows to take over Ifton Meadows for anniversary fun day
Scarecrows of every shape and size will take over a nature reserve next weekend.
The Ifton Meadows reserve on the edge of St Martins, Oswestry has been transformed over the years.
It was originally the spoil heap for the Ifton Colliery which closed in 1968.
After reclamation and regrading of the land it was opened in 1978 as a green space and is cared for by volunteers headed by a management team.
To mark the 40th anniversary there will be a nature fun day on August 19 between noon and 4pm.
The afternoon will include a scarecrow competition.
Ann Williams one of the volunteers said the competition was limited to one entry per family and the scarecrows had to be on site by 1pm.
There will also be storytellers, musicians and dancers, the chance to make a bug box and gardening advice from the allotment society as well as guided nature walks and refreshments.
