The British Ironwork Centre near Oswestry has taken up the east Asian ethos of providing exercise sessions for employees, inviting experts from the town's Crossfit gym to run a class one afternoon a week.

Ben and Clive Knowles joined other staff in the tough workout that soon had those involved encouraging each other and laughing – particularly when the warm up turned out to be a relay on space hoppers.

Rob Walker from Crossfit said keeping fit was a great way to bond as a team.

And he said if people were healthy and enjoyed their time at work, they were less likely to suffer illness and stress.

Clive Knowles said he had taken his inspiration from the Japanese way of life.

"We wanted to look after the well being of our staff," he said.

"It is important to have healthy, happy staff and it was great to see all ages and all abilities taking part and encouraging each other."

He said invited the visitors to the tourist attraction to join in was also important.

"I would love to develop this into not only our regular circuit training but also look at having a yoga or pilates in the park session," he said.

"We have such a beautiful park here it is a shame not to use it."

Staff member, Colin Wright, himself a keen cyclist, said the circuit training was an excellent idea.

"Individuals can work at their own pace and ability, motivated by their partner at each exercise station," he said.
