Oswestry bookshop to host talks by Keegan, Palin and Warne
One of Shropshire's leading independent bookshops is set for a bumper week in October as it welcomes three big names to the county.
Booka Bookshop in Oswestry, which holds events throughout the year with authors and celebrities who pen autobiographies, welcomes former England and Liverpool star Kevin Keegan to the Lion Quays Hotel on October 1.
Starting at 7pm, he will give a talk about his career in playing and management, and talk about his new book, My Life in Football.
The book tells tells the story of his life, from the streets of Doncaster to signing for Liverpool under Bill Shankly where he won three First Division titles, two UEFA Cups, a European Cup and the FA Cup before moving to Hamburg where he won the Bundasliga as well as the Ballon d’Or twice.
After retiring, Keegan enjoyed a five year spell spell as manager at Newcastle United during which the club was promoted to the Premier League and then finished runners up in the top flight, not once but twice.
Tickets for the event are £25, which include a signed cop of the book.
Two days later on October 3, comedian, actor, writer and television presenter Michael Palin will also give a talk at the Lion Quays, starting at 7.30pm.
The Monty Python stalwart and much loved television globetrotter Michael Palin talking about his latest book Erebus: the Story of a Ship.
In this major new work, Michael Palin brings to life the world and voyages of HMS Erebus, from its construction in the naval dockyards of Pembroke, to the part it played in Ross’s Antarctic expedition of 1839–43, to its abandonment during Franklin’s ill-fated Arctic expedition, and to its final rediscovery on the seabed in Queen Maud Gulf in 2014.
Tickets are £20 including a signed book.
Then on October 10, former Australian spin king Shane Warne will be talking about his new autobiography 'No Spin', at an event at Moreton Hall School.
He will talk about his Ashes battles with England, and some of the finest moments in his glittering cricketing career.
Tickets for this also include a signed book and cost £25.
