Jack and the Beanstalk comes to Ellesmere
It's panto time across the county with Jack and the Beanstalk making an appearance in Ellesmere next week.
The town's Amateur Dramatic Society will tell the tale of Jack, who sold the family cow for an handful of beans, at Ellesmere Town Hall from January 17 to 19, at 7.30pm with a matinee on January 19 at 2pm.
Tickets, which cost £8 for adults and £5 concessions, are available from Maxwell Printing in Trimpley Street, Ellesmere, or on the door, subject to availability.
Society secretary, Claire Elliott, said the panto was a traditional version, with local references that would raise a laugh.
She said the amateur dramatic society had been in existence for more than 100 years.
"We always welcome new members, whether they are keen on acting or singing, or whether they are interesting in helping behind the scenes," she said.
"Maybe someone has written a play but never seen in in production, or perhaps they have come to Ellesmere from another area and would like to get involved in local amateur dramatics."
Claire said the society usually held three events during the year.
"We have a pantomime in January and productions in May or June and again in September. they are varied and could be a comedy or straight play, two short plays back-to-back or maybe a music hall evening.
"Our productions are normally at Ellesmere Town Hall but we have performed in the Comrades Club and other venues."
"We are always keen to look at fresh ideas."
The society meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Comrades Club in Ellesmere at 7.30pm and anyone interested in getting involved is welcome to go along.
