Comedian Jo Brand will join the next series of The Great British Bake Off as she brings back her spin-off programme, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice.

Formerly a BBC Two production, the new run will move to Channel 4 along with the main baking show when it returns for its eighth series.

Brand will welcome a fresh host of celebrity guests to discuss the show’s latest episodes, and each contestant will leave the tent as the competition progresses.

She will also invite her audience of Bake Off fans to bring in their own culinary masterpieces as she shares clips of exclusive footage and unseen moments from the main show.

Brand commented: “As a completely mediocre baker myself, but lover of all things spongey and tarty, I am really looking forward to another Extra Slice and all the fun and frolics that brings.”

The next Bake Off series will be a landmark for the much-loved show as it returns with a new line-up of hosts.

Long-standing TV baker Paul Hollywood will stay on as judge, while Prue Leith replaces Mary Berry and Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding take over from rib-tickling presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.

Major changes in the show have provoked mixed reactions from its legions of loyal fans.

A first-look photo of the new team recently sparked debates again, with one person commenting on Twitter that the new presenter duo looked like a “single mum and her goth son”.

Among the more positive fans, one wrote: ”It doesn’t bother me at all – I like Sandi and Noel and I think it will be every bit as good as it was on the BBC. You’ll see! #GBBO.”
