Netflix now showing Free Rein series filmed in Shropshire
Scenes for a major new Netflix series have been filmed in and around a Shropshire town.
Free Rein, which is now available to watch on the streaming service, features scenes filmed in Ellesmere last October.
Residents spotted the film crews in the Castlefield car park, near the Mere and at the Boathouse.
The series, which is aimed at children, tells the story of a 15-year-old from America who spends the summer at her mother’s childhood home on an island off the coast of England, where she bonds with a mysterious horse.
British dressage Olympic champion Charlotte Dujardin appears in the series.
In a Facebook post to fans she said: "Tomorrow sees the worldwide launch of a new Netflix original series for kids, from Lime Pictures, called Free Rein which will be available in more than 190 countries.
"And whilst I won't be officially adding 'actress' to my CV, I am in fact playing a cameo in this and filmed it last year.
"It follows 15-year-old Zoe's life that changes through her friendship with her horse, which gives her the strength to deal with issues and explore new relationships.
"She is faced with personal and physical challenges at every turn and her inspirational journey shows us that it's not how many times we think we've failed but how we pick ourselves up again.
"The series is aimed at children, young teenagers and families and spans over 10 episodes.
"I was very nervous to take part in this but it was an amazing opportunity for a dressage rider like me and has a great cast.
"It was a lot of fun to do and I'm so grateful for these experiences so thank you to Lime Pictures, Netflix and the cast and crew for making me feel so welcome."
The main character Zoe is played by Jaylen Barron - an American actress known for her roles on the show Good Luck Charlie, Disney Channel and Nickelodeon's See Dad Run, Fox's Bones and Shake It Up also on Disney.
